A warm welcome awaits visitors to the Mermaid Tavern, a local favourite that serves a good range of beers, wines and spirits. Having been established early in the 20th century, there's bags of history and character in this traditional tavern. There's a pool table and up-to-date jukebox, and plenty of outside seating for warmer, dry days.

Snacks and sandwiches are available on request.

Children and dogs are very welcome.

Open 10.00 to 23.00 Monday to Friday and until 23.45 on Saturday. Closed on Sunday.

BEL AIR INN

Located at the top of Harbour Hill, Bel Air is another traditional, easy going establishment. With friendly staff and locals, this is a great place to stop for refreshment with the added bonus of a small pizza and panini menu. There's a spacious play area for kids and be sure to check out the second bar fashioned from a boat.

SMUGGLER'S BAR, STOCKS HOTEL

For a more varied menu and slightly more up market surroundings, the Smuggler's Bar within the Stock's Hotel is a fine option. With its original oak beams, soft furnishings and open fireplaces, this is a popular venue that's open to non-residents of the hotel. The bar serves a range of beverages, including single malt whiskeys, and a varied bar menu.

Open every evening and at lunchtime during the summer and winter months.
